81st Hobo Minstrel Show will be ‘Goin’ Country’ on stage
Rescue Hose Company volunteers will present their 81st Hobo Minstrels season, entitled “GOIN’ COUNTRY”, with classic country songs and jokes. The first Rescue Hose Company Volunteer Minstrel began in 1929 and remains active with over 70 volunteers in 2016.
Believed to be the longest running Minstrel group in the United States, the cast will present programs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, March 10, 11, and 12 in the Greencastle-Antrim High School auditorium on South Ridge Avenue. Tickets remain just $5 per person. Children 10 and under will be admitted for $3. Tickets are available at the door each evening. Doors will be open to the front and rear of the high school to assure ample parking all three nights.
Proceeds will benefit the Rescue Hose Company, Inc. providing fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to the citizens and visitors of the Greencastle-Antrim community since 1896.
Todd Roland returns with Benny Thomas as Premier End-men in the great Hobo Minstrels tradition.
A wonderful chorus and band blends the tones of many classic songs as we present our 81st Minstrels Season. Some of the favorites to be performed include: “I’m A Long Tall Texan” by Larry Keener, “King of the Road” by Harry Gsell, “Elvira” by Tom Shook, “Kiss An Angel Good Mornin’” by Roland, “Thank God I’m A Country Boy” by Ray Mowen Jr., “Take Me Home Country Roads” by Phil Oberholzer and “Forever and Ever Amen” by Thomas.

Chorus favorites include “Ring of Fire,” “Hey Good Lookin’”, “Rhinestone Cowboy,” “Daddy Sang Bass,” “How Great Thou Art” and “God Bless America.”
“The Bones” will be performed by The Wolfes. Special solos will be presented by Bill Brown, Carl Fahnestock, Dave Reeder, the HOCO Quartet and pianist Harrison Scott. Piano by Scott, banjo and guitar by Carl Fahnestock, drums by Craig Wolfe and bass guitar by Durand Walter complete an evening sure to be enjoyed by all.
The show is under the direction of Ben Thomas Jr. with interlocutor Dr. C. Gregory Hoover.
On Saturday evening, March 12, the Greencastle Rotary Club will host an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner in the high school cafeteria from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 to 12. Children under 6 are free. Proceeds benefit the Tayamentasachta Environmental Center.
Greencastle Rotary is sponsoring a Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, March 12, prior to the Rescue Hose Company Minstrel Show. It will be held at the Greencastle-Antrim High School cafeteria from 5 - 7 p.m. and is all you can eat. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.
Prices are $8 adults, $5 kids (ages 6-12) and free for under 6.
