Greencastle-Antrim vocal students to offer evening of song

The annual spring choral concert fro Greencastle-Antrim secondary students will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, April 25 in the high school auditorium.

Under the direction of Ronalyn Bingaman, the combined middle school and high school choirs will open the concert with “Oh How Lovely Is the Evening” and “Laudate”, which will be accompanied by seventh-grader Zakary Reynolds. The Sixth Grade Chorus members will sing “Allelu, Sing Praises!”, accompanied by Lindsey Eberly, followed by the 1940s hit “Swinging On A Star”.  The Girls’ Ensemble of the middle school choirs will sing “Birdsong”, which was a poem written by children held in the Terezin Concentration Camp in Czechoslavakia. The gentlemen of the middle school choruses will join the ladies on stage for “The Cat Came Back”, accompanied by Emma Witmer. The young men will then serenade the audience with “The Rough, Tough, Burly Sailor Song” with Cale Stover as the captain. The middle school portion of the concert will end with “Brighten My Soul With Sunshine”, accompanied by Zakary Reynolds and “Ride the Chariot”, accompanied by Emma Monday.

The concert will continue with the Select Vocal Ensemble performing “Lux Aeterna” by Tom Porter and the Huddie Ledbetter song “Bring Me Little Water, Silvy”. The High School Choir will take the stage with “Yo Le Canto Todo El Dia”, which translates into “I sing to you all day long”. Harrison Scott accompanies this Latin American song. “Sing Me To Heaven” and “Elijah Rock” will be performed a cappella. The gentlemen of the high school choir will entertain the audience with the 1962 number one pop hit by the Four Seasons entitled “Sherry”. Preston Greene has the solo for this number. The choir will sing The Beetles 1965 tune, “In My Life” with special voices Shianne Johnson, Rachel Peterson and Megan Swam. The young ladies of the high school choir will perform a song from the movie Pitch Perfect called “Just the Way You Are/Just a Dream”. The senior girls will be highlighted in this song, singing the main themes of the song. The concert will conclude with “What Shall We Do With a  Drunken Sailor” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic”, both songs being accompanied by senior choir member, Harrison Scott.

The combined choirs will send the audience home with a lovely blessing called, “Tallis Canon”.

The concert is free of charge, but a free-will donation will be collected at the end of the concert to help purchase choral awards and certificates for the students.
