Old Home Week badges to go on sale July 8

The badges have arrived. The presses are about to run on the official program. And Ed Wine received his president’s tie. These items were among the good news shared at Monday evening’s Greencastle-Antrim Old Home Week Association meeting.

With just over a month until the 39th triennial homecoming celebration, the multitude of committees in charge of putting on the festivities held every three years since 1902 reported few issues.

Among the outstanding needs are more actors for the pageant, which is presented Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, Aug. 9 and 10, of Old Home Week. There are still parts available for all, but especially men. Rehearsals just began last week. Dress rehearsal is Monday, Aug. 8.

Registration is underway for a number of the celebration’s events, including the parade, the antique car show, the dog show, the flower show, the motorcycle display, the window display and the 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Badges go on sale

The badges, which come with an official program, will be available to the public for the first time during Sidewalk Days in downtown Greencastle. Badges cost $6 and will be available at the Old Home Week table in front of Anna’s Paperworks on the southwest corner of Center Square Friday and Saturday, July 8 and 9, during Sidewalk Days hours.

Most the Old Home Week activities are free for all. Some events require a badge, however wearing the symbol of the celebration during the week is commonly seen as a “badge of honor”.

For the first time the Old Home Week Association is offering green and white lanyards which hold the badge and be worn around one’s neck rather than be pinned on clothing. The lanyards will sale for $1.

T-shirts and hats for the 2016 celebration will also be sold starting during Sidewalk Days.

During Monday’s meeting, chair of the T-shirt and hat committee, Tom Stine, presented Ed Wine, president of the associaiton, with the traditional red, white and blue necktie which added his name in embroidery with the past five officeholders.
