New warehouse being built near airport

Bowman Development is building a 50-dock, 801,000-square-foot distribution center just north of Hagerstown

"We plan to have it ready for occupancy in April of 2023," said Rob Ferree, president of Bowman Development.

Site work off Crayton Boulevard.

The site at 13850 Crayton Blvd. was chosen in part because of its easy access to Interstate 81, he said.

The property is designed as "highway interchange" zoning, which allows for structures like warehouses. The site is between I-81 and Crayton Boulevard, south of the Love's Travel Stop, near Hagerstown Regional Airport and a recently built warehouse that is being used by Amazon.

Bowman Development of Williamsport is planning to build a 801,000-square-foot warehouse north of Hagerstown. This drawing shows a footprint for the proposed building, with Interstate 81 to the left and Crayton Boulevard to the right. Part of the parking area for the Love's Travel Stop is at the top of the drawing.

"We're trying to meet what seems to be a big demand for warehouse space in this area," Ferree said.

According to a building permit on file with Washington County, the project is valued at $33.5 million.

Bowman Development is an arm of the Bowman Group, which is based in Williamsport.

Bowman Development recently completed Building No. 6 at Bowman Business Park on Governor Lane Boulevard.

The company also recently completed Building No. 6 in the Bowman Business Park off Governor Lane Boulevard, Ferree said.

He said space in the 48,000-square-foot building can be adjusted to fit needs of various commercial uses.

"Interest has been very good on that building," he said.
