What can you do?

Each year at this time the Rescue Hose Company takes just a brief timeout to honor its own. The annual awards banquet was held Saturday at the, of course, Special Events Center.

Many of the volunteers that we rely on in our most desperate times were in attendance. They have given countless hours to emergency services for the Greencastle-Antrim community. They should be proud and take time to pat themselves on the back.

The event should also be a reminder to the rest of us to appreciate all that the RHC does for us. There are just not enough words to express enough appreciation to those who provide emergency services for us.

Volunteers are the backbone of the Rescue Hose Company and that’s something we all need to remember. That should especially spur us to give to the organization; whether it’s through donations or support of the fundraising events held by the RHC.

We also could consider becoming a volunteer. Outgoing president William Hull noted at the banquet that recruitment and retention of volunteers continues to be the biggest challenge for the RHC.

Ask yourself if you could do more to help with a vital part of our community — emergency services.
